Friday: Harriers v Buxton

A look ahead to Good Friday’s Aggborough clash against Buxton….

RUSS Penn is excited for Harriers to pit their wits against the division’s two in-forms over Easter, starting with Friday’s visit of Buxton to Aggborough.

The Bucks come to Aggborough in scintillating form following the arrival of former Boston chief Craig Elliott earlier this term.

He’s helped transform them from being a side in genuine relegation peril at the foot of the table, to the outfit looking most likely to snatch a late play-off place.

That’s thanks to a 14-match unbeaten run that sees them established at the very top of the National League North form table.

On the back of that, Harriers will meet AFC Fylde for the fifth time this season on Easter Monday.

The Coasters, second in said form table, are within touching distance of the North title and know that a few more wins will secure them a spot back in non-league’s top tier.

It’s a quick turnaround this weekend, but that’s something the Harriers Manager enjoys.

He explained: “I like these double games [in] quick succession – you use your squad and you’ve got to be organised and adapt.

“Everyone is in the same situation and we’re playing the two teams in form.

“We look forward to welcoming Buxton, a new team and a new Manager, and we’re going to have to be right on it because they’re fighting for the play-offs.

“They’re that one team who are probably going to try and pip the last spot, so we have got to try and stop them.

“It is two good teams playing each other on [Friday], two teams known for playing good football, so let’s have a go.”

Harriers are slowly carving out a run of form of their own – though relatively speaking.

The Reds have suffered one defeat in seven after solidifying in recent weeks and are eager to end the current term with some enthusiasm.

Penn went on to say the team’s upcoming opponents: “They’re top of the form table and Fylde are second.

“It’s a great weekend for us to pit our wits.

“I think we’re a different team over the last six weeks. We look more organised and are staying in games a lot longer.

“We’ve had one defeat in seven, albeit a lot of draws [and] I want to end the season on a high.

“We have five games to go, and I want to end with as many points as we can.”

Harriers will be without the suspended Nat Knight-Percival for Friday’s fixture against Buxton as he completes a four-match suspension.

Ethan Freemantle was ruled out for the season late last month, while Penn confirmed Reiss McNally is unlikely to feature against The Bucks due to injury.

Harriers have recalled Jack Tolley from his loan with Bromsgrove Sporting and will be available to the Reds over the Easter weekend.

Kick-off at Aggborough Stadium on Good Friday is at 3:00pm.
