Saturday: Harriers v Wealdstone

A look ahead to Saturday’s home clash with Wealdstone….

HARRIERS host Wealdstone at Aggborough on Saturday looking to build on a crucial midweek win at Dorking.

The Reds notched a key three points at Meadowbank Stadium for what was a second away win of the term.

Now attentions turn to Aggborough as the Reds look to get their home campaign off the mark.

Speaking ahead of the game, Jimmy O’Connor said the side have to now build on recent DY10 performances to clinch that success.

“That’s our next challenge,” he said.  “We need to get a win at Aggborough.

“Performances have been okay, they’ve been decent and we’ve given ourselves a chance.

“It’s about doing that, first and foremost, then getting over the line.”

The Stones travel to Aggborough on the flipside – looking for their first away victory of the campaign.

O’Connor added: “Wealdstone will come here as another good side who play really good football.

“You’ve seen that they’re one of four or five teams who are excellent footballing sides who will cause you their types of problems.

“It’s up to us to nullify them and then to strike back and give them some problems as well.”

Saturday’s visitors to Aggborough are looking to end a run of one win in six in National League action, but some of their notable results are eye-catching.

Already thus far in 2023-24, they’ve knocked off York City, Fylde, Ebbsfleet and Woking and sit comfortably enough in 16th place in the division.

For this weekend’s action, there is little change in the Aggborough treatment room.

Although all of the injured players continue to make progress, none of Nat Knight-Percival, Reiss McNally, Matt Preston, Jack Lambert, Shane Byrne are likely to be available to face Wealdstone.

Though Harriers and Wealdstone haven’t crossed swords in over a generation, this is far from a new fixture.

The two sides have met on ten occasions previously – it was a regular fixture in the 1980s Alliance Premier and Football Conference days.

The last meeting was still back in 1988, with Harriers victorious in a 2-1 victory at Aggborough.

Kick off on Saturday is at 3:00pm.
