HARRIERS grabbed a point from a testing encounter that ended 1-1 at Altrincham.

A fast start from the visitors saw Caleb Richards have a shot blocked with around 15 seconds played, and with less than two minutes on the clock the team were in front as a combination of Krystian Pearce and Reiss McNally turned a ball into the area inside the far corner of the net.

Harriers then had to stand up to the test of handling the onslaught of one of the division’s in-form teams and, though they did pull level, it was a job they managed well. Newby, on 13 minutes, had a close-range shot deflected away for a corner before Banks drilled in a low finish after a quickly taken throw-in.

Altrincham through Angus and Conn-Clarke went close before the break but each struck off target, with home goalkeeper Ross at the other end called upon to parry away Bailey Hobson’s drive and hold on to a header from Kieran Phillips.

Dibble was worked more in the second 45 and saved well from Conn-Clarke on 51 minutes, before Angus struck off target once more five after the hour.

Sammy Robson almost single-handedly put Harriers in front with a little under a quarter-hour played as he advanced on goal before pulling a shot wide.

The hosts dominated the ball in the later stages but were denied by some excellent defending. Dibble showed excellent reactions to save from Amaluzor, who then spurned his follow up. The custodian would then thwart Sithole with just six minutes left.

Harriers undoubtedly defended with more confidence in the second half and were rewarded for their efforts with a point – as were the 220 away supporters who got behind their team on the night.
