Saturday: Harriers v Stourbridge

A look ahead to this weekend’s FA Trophy meeting with Stourbridge…

The Isuzu FA Trophy

HARRIERS enter the Isuzu FA Trophy on Saturday as local rivals Stourbridge visit Aggborough Stadium.

A place in the Fourth Round is up for grabs as Harriers and the Glassboys go head to head.

It marks the first competitive meetings between the two since the trio of forgettable cup contests for Harriers that saw Stourbridge victorious on three different occasions across two seasons.

All of those took place at the War Memorial Ground so, understandably, Russ Penn is eager to welcome them to DY10 this time around.

He explained he has no interest in resting players or using it as an opportunity to experiment.

Instead, Penn knows it’s a chance to continue the momentum built over the last several weeks.

He explained: “I’m really looking forward to this game. It’s bragging rights and it’s a team we’ll welcome, but we’re looking to win the game to advance further in the cup.

“There’s no point going into the game looking to lose it or change 11 players – we’re at home, there will be a nice, healthy crowd and we’re looking to win the game against our local rivals.

“I really don’t understand the argument of not doing that.”

Of The Glassboys, Penn added:

“The management have done a really good job and steadied the ship there.

“They’ll be like us, a little bit disappointed with where they are in the league at the moment, and looking to have a run in the cup.”

The Manager hinted that skipper Shane Byrne could have some involvement in Saturday’s Trophy tie, should his recovery continue unimpeded.

Byrne has been out of action since the opening day in August with a knee injury, but is edging close to a comeback.

Nat Knight-Percival and Joe Leesley are also close, but are unlikely to go up against Stourbridge.

Kick-off at Aggborough on Saturday is at 3:00pm.

As a reminder, the match will be settled on the day, with penalties due at the end of 90 minutes should scores be level.
