Saturday: Harriers v Boreham Wood

A look ahead to Saturday’s game at Aggborough….

HARRIERS and Boreham Wood meet once again on Saturday as both teams look to close out the year on the front foot.

Boxing Day’s 1-1 draw in the reverse fixture sets up what’s sure to be another tense tussle, with both sides putting everything into a keenly-contested game just days ago.

The two sides will may look to freshen up their ranks going into the match, with Boreham Wood in particular down to the bare bones on Tuesday.

Changes from the bench yielded the response needed to get back into the game for Harriers, with the likes of Ryan McLean and Ashley Hemmings providing a timely boost.

Penn reflected: “We’re trying to win the games and I think we were really brave with our team selection on Tuesday.

“It didn’t quite work for the first hour and we changed the formation and it worked.

“We were really proactive, but it doesn’t  mean we’re going with that on Saturday; we’ve got to utilise the squad and pick a team that we believe can win the game on Saturday.

“They’ll be looking for the win as much as we are, so it should be a good game.”

Saturday’s match starts the run of the final 20 matches in the National League season.

While the pressure is on for Harriers to pick up results, Penn says the focus can only stretch as far as the next encounter.

He added: “You’ve just got to have an eye on the next game as you can only get three points, and that’s what we’re looking to do.

“We know we need a lot more wins than we’ve had in the first half of the season.

“There are such fine lines in football. I can’t tell you how close we’ve come to winning probably three or four games this season and drawing three or four.

“If that’s the case, we’re probably still talking a relegation battle, but we’d be on the other side of the line.

“I don’t think anything’s changed in terms of where we should be and where we are now, it’s just there to be seen now.

“The pressure’s on from the crowd, but they’re backing us, which is great.

“The last two games they’ve been in full voice and we’re going to need them more than ever.”

Penn confirmed that he hopes, barring a few bumps and bruises, Harriers will go into the game with no new injury worries.

Ashley Hemmings (dead leg) came through a late fitness test to feature and score on Boxing Day, so only Joe Leesley and Nat Knight-Percival remain out.

The pair were rated  at being at least six away from a comeback prior to Christmas following injury set-backs recently.

Saturday’s game is just the fourth meeting of these two teams, and only Boreham Wood’s second trip to Aggborough.

Prior to Boxing Day, they’d only met in the 2015-16 campaign, during which the DY10 clash ended in a 1-1 draw.

Kick-off at Aggborough on Saturday is at 3:00pm.
