HARRIERS head to Oldham Athletic tomorrow for a National League game set to be played in front of a near 12,000 crowd.
The Latics slashed their admission prices for the game as part of a charity initiative.
Saturday’s fixture acts as a homecoming of sorts for Chairman, Frank Rothwell, who has recently completed an incredible, world-record solo row across the Atlantic.
The jaunt has already raised over £300,000 for Alzheimer’s Research UK, with the club adding to that total with donations given by supporters in addition to their £1 match ticket.
It should make for an impressive occasion, with close to 700 Harriers fans also set to back their side at Boundary Park.
Boss Phil Brown is well aware of the illustrious history of Saturday’s opposition, and looked ahead to the game with great anticipation.
“There will be a massive crowd,” he said. ”
“Going back to my days when I was almost a supporter of Oldham when Joe Royle had a team that wanted to be admired, and I was just down the road playing football at Halifax.
“I used to go and watch them because I was impressed with the way they played, and those were the halcyon days of Oldham Athletic.
“You’d never have thought back in those days that they were going to be in the National League, but that’s life, that’s football.
“It’s happened to a number of teams, and it has happened to Oldham, and we’re coming up against a team that can boast a great history in the Football League.
“They are what they are, and they are where they are, and I know the Manager very well, having played alongside him at Blackpool when he was only a pup, and I was coming to the end of my career.”
Despite the high spirits of the occasion and the wonderful charitable endeavour, Brown knows come kick off time his side will need to focus on the task at hand.
It won’t be easy against an Oldham side beaten just once in their last nine league outings, but Harriers will be keen to rediscover the form that led to their own four-match winning run.
Performing well is something his side are more than capable of doing, as Brown added: “There’s lots of things to understand about this game, but one of the main things is that, if we bring our A Game to the table, put our best foot forward… if we focus on us and play to the best of our ability, we’ll give anyone a game in this league.”
Harriers go into the game still missing long-term injury absentees Matt Preston and Sammy Robinson.
Aaron Harper-Bailey has returned to West Brom following his loan, with Brown due to strengthen his ranks prior to kick off.
There is a limited number of £1 away match tickets available for this clash, which can be purchased from the Oldham website. This is an all-ticket fixture.
Away travel from Harriers is sold out.
Kick-off on Saturday is at 3:00pm.
