HARRIERS will possibly contest the final nine games of the league season without skipper Shane Byrne after the midfielder picked up an injury at Woking in midweek.
The Captain, who has already battled back from an injury sustained on the opening day of the season – ironically against Woking, suffered a knee fracture in the 2-1 defeat at the Laithwaite Community Stadium.
The next steps for Shane in regards to treatment will be decided in the coming days, but Phil Brown confirmed the player will may take no further part in the campaign’s run in.
The boss explained: “He’s a great character, a proper Captain and a leader of men. In the last meeting we’ve had, he’s sat in there with a knee brace on.
“The bottom line is that there’s a possibility the season is over for Shane, and I’ll be doing everything I possibly can to support the lad from now on.
“Personally, I’d like to thank him for his contribution so far, before we arrived, but more importantly, after we arrived – he was a million percent behind what we were trying to do.
“I know he’ll be here on Saturday and at every game, wanting to contribute in some form.”
We wish our skipper all the best for a swift recovery.
