Saturday: Harriers v Eastleigh

All the details ahead of Saturday’s meeting with Eastleigh…

PHIL Brown says “nothing’s changed” for his side in their quest to extend their National League stay with victory against Eastleigh on Saturday.

The Aggborough boss will welcome the Spitfires to DY10 knowing that a win is a must if the side are to take any realistic chance of staying up into next week and, latterly, the final clash at Barnet.

Despite the high stakes, he believes the task is as simple as it ever was – win the battle ahead.

He explained: “We’re in it with a chance, whereas 16 games ago, everybody wrote us off – we were relegated, out of sight.

“I wouldn’t have took the job if we were already relegated, and I don’t think the job would’ve been available.

“When the offer came along, the job, the challenge was to stay in the National League.

“We still have that opportunity with 16 games under our belt, we know what that group is like now.

“We know exactly what’s coming in terms of the opposition.

“There’s a lot of times we’ve played teams who are far better football teams than what we are, but we’ve battled against them and won that battle individually and collectively and have gone on to win the game.

“That’s the mentality of Saturday. Nothing’s changed, really.”

A survival battle is something Brown knows plenty about, having succeeded in relegation scraps from Hull to Barrow.

Does the same challenge at Kidderminster excite him now?

He added: “It’s the same type of vibe, you get a tingle in your spine or your stomach, whichever the case may be.

“If I didn’t get that now I would have retired a long time ago.

“It doesn’t matter what football club, it doesn’t matter what colours you wear, it doesn’t matter which badge you’re playing for or which Owner you’re playing for: if you see your passion being valued at that football club and then you see your management acumen valued at that football club – which I’ve seen – then I’m passionate about the club.

“I’m passionate about winning games of football and there’s only one benefit from that and that’s Kidderminster Harriers.”

Kick off on Saturday is at 3:00pm.
