A look back at Tuesday night’s Aggborough action…

HARRIERS and Chester played out a hard-fought 1-1 draw at Aggborough in National League North on Tuesday night.

It was an entertaining watch as two teams determined to play football matched each other well, the first sight of goal going Chester’s way early on as George Glendon saw a an audacious attempt at a shot from over 30 yards skew well wide of the target.

Also taking aim from distance were Ashley Hemmings and Maliq Cadogan, the Harriers skipper first seeing a drive fly just past Elyh Harrison’s target before Cadogan, with 18 minutes on the clock, was denied by the on-loan Manchester United goalkeeper.

If those chances were close, Tope Obadeyi went even closer with less than five minutes before the break, the striker meeting a corner and nodding wide of the post from amongst a crowd of bodies.

12 minutes into the second half, Obadeyi was in the thick of the action again for the hosts, an curled effort, with the intent of finding the far corner, was held well.

Chester had Nathan Woodthorpe to thank for keeping the scores level not long before the hour. As Joe Foulkes tried to slot home, his intervention proved timely – a block also unsettling Jack Lambert who’d waited at the far post to pounce, ultimately unable to pounce.

More chances came in quick succession at the North Stand end. Foulkes, boosted by his first effort, combined with Luke Summerfield before seeing another shot blocked away for a corner by Ben Pollock. From that kick, Hemmings fired over with Harrison grasping.

The goal that had been coming finally arrived moments later. Kouhyar supplied Hemmings who beat his man before floating in an irresistible cross that Obadeyi gobbled up with a powerful header to net his first for the club.

That seemed to spark the visitors in to life and, within ten minutes, they were level. Having cleared one corner with some crucial defending, a further set piece was met by Matty Williams’ header, his header adjudged to have been blocked on the goal line by Hemmings who was promptly given his marching orders. From the resultant penalty, in-form Charlie Caton blasted the ball beyond Christian Dibble.

Though that further buoyed the vocal away crowd, it didn’t prove to be a buckling point for Harriers who stood up strong to the pressure that followed. With two minutes left of normal time, Declan Weeks struck well wide before four minutes of added time were safely negotiated.
