A GOAL in each half helped Harriers through to the Fourth Qualifying Round of the Emirates FA Cup courtesy of a 2-0 win over Buxton.

The success over a National League North rival was achieved comfortably enough, but at a cost thanks to a concerning injury to midfielder Luke Summerfield who was taken to hospital for X-rays on Tuesday night.

On the pitch, Tope Odabeyi had the first chance of the night, a firm shot deflected wide before, at the other end, Ben Andreucci struck off target when placed to arguably do much better.

Summerfield’s injury occurred five minutes after the latter, Christian Dibble then blocking at the feet of Ben Sault as he threatened to open the scoring for Buxton.

A minute later, the scores were opened. Amari Morgan-Smith proved a menace in getting in ahead of his man and in front of goalkeeper Grant Sault and, when the keeper blocked his shot, Jack Lambert was on hand to sweep up for his first goal of the campaign.

There was almost a repeat for Morgan-Smith nine before the break but Grant stopped him once more before showing good reactions to keep hold of another Obadeyi effort.

The second half contained far fewer chances, thanks chiefly to the fact that Morgan Smith struck superbly to but the tie out of Buxton’s reach within two minutes. Charging at goal to meet a flick on from Harry Ibbitson, he finished tremendously from just inside the area.

In truth that was pretty much it in terms of clear sights of goal, though there were two big sniffs at a third goal for Harriers in the final seconds of the tie. First, Joe Foulkes almost arced a superb finish inside the far post from 18 yards only to see it crash wide, before a rapid counter attack saw Obadeyi in on goal, Grant out quickly to save and keep the score at 2-0.
