Congratulations to Kidderminster Harriers – 2024-25 WFA Women’s Sunday Cup Winners!
The Reds were comfortable 6-0 winners last Sunday as they took down Worcester City in the Final at Claines Lane.
Harriers were off to a bright start, Amber Lawrence almost looping in an early opener with a chip over the goalkeeper before Mill Rogers went close with a rising drive that flew just over the angle of bar and post.
Rogers wasn’t to be denied, though. Seconds later she showed great strength and perseverance to hold off the attentions of two players before driving an angled effort into the bottom corner.
It was 2-0 past the half hour, an incisive through ball to Rogers from Chiara Stokes allowing the in-form goal getter to round the goalkeeper and find the net once more.
Skipper Amber Lawrence got in on the act to make it 3-0 before the break. Superb vision and a one-touch pass from Izzie Whittick set Lawrence free, and her composure saw her draw the goalkeeper and finish.
The Reds were then in a hugely commanding position at the break and cemented the victory with a fourth goal just minutes into the second half as substitute Pheobe Hill getting on the end of a deep free kick that the covering defence couldn’t prevent from finding the net.
Not content, Harriers continued to press hard and, snatching the ball back just inside their own area, they were able to bag a fifth. Lawrence turned well to lay in Alex Nicklin who curled a superb effort from distance into the far corner giving the goalkeeper no chance.
With 15 left, the sixth and final goal of the day arrived courtesy of a fine headed finish from Mia Badland after great industry from Sophie Levick and a cross from Stokes.
The decisive win sets Harriers up nicely to take aim at a League and Cup double this season.
The Reds currently sit second in the WMRWFL Premier Division, four points behind leaders Lye Town but with two games less played.
Andy Fisher’s charges know, however, that victory in their last three matches will guarantee them the title and promotion.
It will be far from an easy feat, but the first of that treble of games comes on Sunday at Burton Albion, Harriers kicking off at the Pirelli an hour before the action at Aggborough where Phil Brown’s men play in a play-off clash.
Good luck Harriers, and congratulations again on your amazing season so far and the huge County Cup win!
