Russ Penn

A name that needs no introduction to Harriers fans, combative midfielder Penn has been with Harriers at several points throughout his playing and management career.

First joining Harriers as part of the youth team in the early 2000s, he would make his senior debut as a professional footballer in red and white during the 2005/06 season via a spell with Scunthorpe United.

He would go on to make the best part of 200 appearances for Harriers in the Conference Premier across four seasons, switching to sign for Burton Albion for a substantial fee ahead of the 2009/10 season.

Russ would spend two years with the Brewers, three with Cheltenham Town and three with York City to establish himself as one of the best midfield competitors in the Football League.

He’d make his final fourth tier appearance with Carlisle Untied during the 2016/17 season, totalling almost 300 League Two career turnouts.

Via two spells with Gateshead, some time at Wrexham and a return to York City, Russ re-joined Harriers as a player in late 2018.

He would go on to surpass the 200 mark in Harriers appearances before being appointed as Assistant Manager ahead of the 2019/20 season.

Russ served as Caretaker Manager for two games in November 2019, and then Interim Manager in February 2020 until COVID-19 halted football, before being appointed on a permanent basis ahead of 2020/21.
