Son of former Leicester City manager Nigel, Sheffield-born James is a product of the Rotherham United Academy, and joined his father at Leicester in 2012.

Despite never making a senior appearance with The Foxes, Pearson had spells on loan with Carlisle United; Wrexham and Peterborough United, before joining Barnet on a permanent deal in 2016.

The commanding centre-back made a big impression amongst the Barnet fans with some strong performances, but was released at the end of the 2016/17 season after an injury hit campaign. He then had a short spell with Coventry City before joining Harriers in September 2017.
