HARRIERS produced a dominant performance under the Aggborough lights to secure a commanding 4-0 victory over Marine.
The Reds never relinquishing control of the contest after the first of Reece Devine’s brace and wrapped up an impressive win that sets the stage nicely for Saturday’s FA Trophy quarter-final with Wealdstone.
The opening exchanges carried early warning signs when Offrande Zanzala peeled off from a throw-in on 17 minutes and drove at goal, but Christian Dibble reacted well to make the save.
Two minutes later, Harriers struck when Joe Foulkes wrestled free and drove a low ball across the six-yard box where Reece Devine arrived at pace, keeping his composure to smash home from close range and put Harriers 1-0 ahead.
With confidence flowing, Ryley Reynolds’ delivery continued to cause problems. On 34 minutes, his corner was met by Emeka Obi, who launched himself at the ball but saw his effort fly over. Two minutes later, another excellent Reynolds delivery found Paul Kalambayi rising highest, his effort tipped over well by Fraser Barnsley.
The second goal arrived on 38 minutes and it was Devine again as Harriers kept the ball alive high up the pitch – Devine refused to give up the chase as he showed a superb first touch to nudge the ball beyond Barnsley before calmly finishing into the empty net to double the advantage.
There was still time for further pressure before the break. On 43 minutes, David Davis found Devine from distance and an angle, Barnsley again tipping over. From the resulting corner, Obi headed wide at the near post.
The second period began with further attacking intent. On 46 minutes, Reynolds fed George Walker, who flicked Devine through for a hat-trick opportunity, though his effort was a little wayward.
Marine had a spell of pressure and Harriers had Dibble to thank for some crucial saves. On 51 minutes, substitute James Potter fired over, and on 57 Zanzala found space early, but Dibble reacted superbly with his boot to deny him. Moments later, the same player’s header was tipped over by a back-pedalling Dibble who turned over once more.
That was as much peril as the home side face on the night and on 66 minutes, Foulkes delivered a perfectly weighted free-kick onto the head of Emeka Obi, who powered his finish beyond the keeper with authority to make it 3-0.
Reynolds continued to probe, sending a snapshot wide on 72 minutes before seeing a low free-kick blocked back to Devine on 77 minutes, his follow-up skewing past the far post.
The fourth goal arrived on 80 minutes and was a moment of real quality. Two substitutes combined beautifully as Seb Thompson showed quick feet before delivering for Amari Morgan-Smith, who guided a perfectly judged header into the bottom far corner to complete an emphatic evening.
