All eyes on Aggborough as York come to town in National League North…

RUSS Penn expects Saturday’s visitors York City to be right in amongst the promotion contenders after a steady start to the National League North season.

The Minstermen have had an up and down season so far, showing glimpses of superb form but also a slump that saw boss Steve Watson leave the club.

Nonetheless, they’re undoubtedly one of the biggest clubs in the division, and Penn strongly expects them to rise through the standings during the remainder of the term.

Currently in mid-table, they’ve up to two games in hand on some rivals and could easily venture into the play-offs in the blink of an eye.

In fact, they come into Saturday’s Aggborough clash in strong form and off the back of three successive wins – negotiating their way through two rounds of the FA Trophy and notching a league win over Alfreton in between.

Harriers are of course looking to bounce back from a first league defeat since October last time out when they went down 2-0 to Hereford.

“It’ll be great – we have a lot of connections to [York] in terms of myself and the players,” Penn told our YouTube channel.

“They always bring good crowds and are a fantastic football club who are looking to win the league and will still think that’s possible.

“They are not a mid-table team. The new manager has come in and has made them a lot harder to beat and has recruited really well.

“He will continue to recruit because they’ve got the finances and the resources, so I expect them to be around the play-offs at the end of the season.”

Penn confirmed that striker Ethan Freemantle is set for a short spell on the sidelines after picking up a hamstring injury at Hereford in midweek.

There is more hopeful news elsewhere, however; Nathan Cameron will again be assessed prior to kick off as the club monitor his fitness, while Devonte Redmond is available for selection after missing the midweek match.

Lewis Montrose is also close to being available to Penn again after time out with injury, while Cliff Moyo is thought to now be just a matter of weeks away from full fitness and somewhere close to being available for selection.

Penn’s newest signing, Matt Preston, is also available for a debut.

Harriers and York fans are reminded that there is no longer the facility to pay cash at the turnstiles at Aggborough.

You can still pay in person on the day of the game at the Ticket Office (including in cash), but this incurs a £2 increase on our standard match day prices, so your best bet is to purchase in advance of the day if you can – as this will also potentially save you some queueing!

You can do so online via our ticketing platform or, if you need assistance, by calling 01562 823 931 during opening hours.

Again, it is still possible to buy your tickets at the Ticket Office (up to 15 minutes after kick-off), but you can’t pay cash at the turnstile.

Fans may also wish to familiarise themselves with our current COVID protocols.

Kick-off at Aggborough on Saturday is at 3:00pm
