HARRIERS secured passed to the Third Qualifying Round of the Emirates FA Cup with a 1-0 win over Tamworth at Aggborough.

It was admittedly far from a vintage Cup classic, but Harriers did what they had to do to edge past a tricky looking challenge from The Lamb outfit who have been flying high in their own division.

The first half passed almost without incident of note – half chances coming the way of Ashley Hemmings with a free kick, and Nathaniel Knight-Percival with a header.

Four after the half hour, Tom Palmer had to save from Ty Deacon’s instinctive header before the only real opening for the hosts before the break saw Freemantle spin on the ball inside the area before shooting low, ex-Harrier Jas Singh between the sticks able to hold.

Before the hour it was Hemmings twice taking aim and striking over, before a double change proved crucial for Harriers with Amari Morgan-Smith and Gabby Rogers heading into the fray.

Within seconds, the latter had lofted a super cross towards the far post that Foulkes met with a header – Singh alert to tip the ball over the target.

That momentum proved enough to see Harriers on their way, they were ahead two minutes later when Foulkes provided the ammo to Caleb Richards, whose well directed header into the far corner netted his first goal in 78 club appearances.

Harriers never looked like not progressing at that point, and Shane Byrne went close to doubling the lead on 73 minutes but Singh was alive to thwart his header and follow-up shot.

Rogers might well have got a goal for himself on 76 minutes but struck off target with a brilliant effort, before Morgan-Smith did similar after showing great strength and power to turn inside the area.

The draw for the next round takes place on Tuesday afternoon.
