Saturday: Harriers v Dorking

A look ahead to Saturday’s meeting with Dorking Wanderers at Aggborough…

PHIL Brown insists the form of his team will count for nothing unless Harriers reach their survival goal this season, ahead of Saturday’s clash with Dorking.

The Reds host the Wanderers in DY10 at the weekend looking to stretch a mini streak of league matches under Brown that sits at four straight victories.

While the recent results have provided Harriers with a boost in terms of momentum and confidence, there remains much to be done.

That was Brown’s mantra as he discussed this weekend’s game against another of the sides who’ve found themselves in and around the division’s relegation places.

Reflecting, he said: “You look at the league table, and we’ve talked about how we’ve hit a rich vein of form – form counts for nothing.

“At the end of the season [it’s about] relegation and survival. That will count for everything, and how we get there doesn’t matter.

“If you look at the form table, it’s Chesterfield, AFC Fylde and Kidderminster Harriers, so two of the top of three in the form table were in the bottom four when I first arrived.

“So, form will count for nothing unless you survive, but performance is important.”

Style is clearly important to the boss, but it’s clear he’s prioritising getting the job done in any way possible over focusing on sizzle and pizzaz.

He went on to say: “When you get 3,000 fans coming in week in, week out, if we play like we did at Peterborough Sports every week, that 3,000 would start to dwindle.

“They want to see winning football, but they want to see good football and we’re not at that stage yet, where we can let the chains off the warriors, as it were.

“They’re going into that battle; they’re prepared for that battle. The most important part is that we win that battle, and we win the game. How we do that, at this moment in time, is not really that 100% important.

“As long as the supporters stay with us because we will eventually play some good football. I don’t know when that will be, but we will play some good football!”

Harriers host a Dorking side who themselves will be full of confidence following an excellent 1-0 win at York City in midweek.

White’s charges are clearly capable of pulling off big results – also thumping Boreham Wood on the road recently and defeating Gateshead last month.

This will be their first ever visit to this corner of Worcestershire, with the only two meetings between the two sides to-date both taking place at Meadowbank.

Dorking knocked Harries out of the FA Trophy there last season, before Bailey Hobson’s goal gifted the Reds three points in this season’s return meeting.

Brown said Harriers have been boosted by the return to training in the latter part of this week of players who’d been struggling with flu.

Zak Brown was brought off at half time of last week’s game against Peterborough Sports but is said to be improving.

The boss himself is back on touchline duty after sitting out last weekend’s defeat with his suspension, while Matt Preston and Sammy Robinson are the two confirmed injury absentees with longer-term issues.

Kick-off at Aggborough on Saturday is at 3:00pm
