Gaffer gives his verdict on today's release of the new season's fixtures...

John Eustace is already looking forward to the start of the new season after the fixture release confirmed the term would start with a home game against Chorley.

The opening contest offers up some of football’s typical irony in that the Magpies were our last competitive opposition – in the play-off semi-final back in May.

They’ll now come to Aggborough once again, just as they originally did in August last year, to battle it out with the reds for the first three points of the campaign.

It’ll be far from a ‘revenge’ mission for Harriers, though, such is the work Eustace and his staff are having to do to rebuild the squad after departures in the close season.

“It will be very different as we’ll have a completely new team really,” said the boss.

“Hopefully at the end of those games you have an idea as to how you’re going to be for the rest of the season.”  John Eustace

“I am sure they’ll have a few new faces in their squad too.

“But it is funny how football works – I’m sure both teams both teams will be ready and prepared for the game.

“We’re looking forward to it.”

The first week of the campaign continues with visits to Nuneaton Town and FC United of Manchester.

August isn’t even half over at that point, though – Harriers go on to face Leamington, Salford, Alfreton and Brackley all before we reach September.

That’s all good for the gaffer, however, who added: “You work hard during pre-season and it prepares you for that month or two with all the games.

“Hopefully at the end of those games you have an idea as to how you’re going to be for the rest of the season.”
