Reds add defender as Sonupé moves on

Harriers bag a new defender as Sonupé heads for the Football League…

Defender Ryan Johnson and Emmanuel Sonupé switch between Harriers and Stevenage

Harriers are pleased to confirm the arrival at Aggborough of Northern Ireland U21 international defender Ryan Johnson from Stevenage – with Emmanuel Sonupé heading to the League 2 side.

Strong and powerful, the 21-year-old central defender has inked a long-term loan with Harriers which runs until January.

Birmingham-born Johnson started his career with West Brom before joining Stevenage and, since 2013, has made 13 Football League appearances, in addition to key loan spells in non-league football with Boreham Wood and St Albans.

Johnson, who has 11 U21 caps and also spent time on trial with Tottenham Hotspur last year, also knows all about the National League North after impressing at Nuneaton on loan last season – making 19 appearances there during the second half of the campaign.

Sonupé, meanwhile, has been handed the chance to move up to League 2 after inking a permanent deal with Boro for an undisclosed fee. He spent just over a year here at Aggborough, enjoying a particularly strong season last term in which he netted 15 goals.

We wish Emmanuel all the very best for the future and look forward to seeing Ryan in action at Aggborough – he becomes our second new face of the summer following the arrival of Ashley Chambers on Tuesday.
