Five teams that played in different leagues last season are preparing National League North football during the 2018/19 season.
One of those is a team that Harriers have never previously faced in league action, but have met in the Staffordshire Senior Cup twice during the early 1980’s.
Greater Manchester side Ashton United embark on their first season in England’s sixth tier since the 2004/05 season, having gained promotion via the play-offs from the Northern Premier League last term.
Managed by Jody Banim, The Robins picked up 82 points to finish in second place, facing Farsley Celtic in the play-off semi finals.
A 2-1 win set them up for the final, which took place against Grantham Town at Ashton’s home, Hurst Cross Stadium.
Second half goals from Liam Tomsett and Nico Evangelinos secured a 2-0 victory and promotion to the National League North. That play off success also marked their fourth attempt at promotion via the play-offs during the previous five seasons.
