Report: Burton net late win

Report from our pre-season home game against Burton Albion at Aggborough…

TWO second half goals saw Harriers beaten in a pre-season game against Burton Albion at Aggborough Stadium.

Ed Williams struck a well-taken goal to give his team the lead at the break, but the League 1 side hit back with two goals at either end of the second half to seal the win.

The home side started tremendously and dominated much of the first half – Lee Vaughan’s dangerous deliveries were only a glancing finish away from a breakthrough before Wiliams, striding confidently through the Burton pack before finishing low with 13 on the clock.

Marvin Sordell was the visitors’ best first-half outlet, going close either side of the half hour, before Williams was decidedly more wayward with his attempted volley that flew wide of the target on the stroke of half time.

Burton struck level just three after the restart as sub Sbarra powerfully finished beyond Hall – the Harriers custodian doing well to get down and keep out Allen’s free kick not long after.

Mass changes meant Harriers never quite matched their first-half showing but, as with Saturday’s game against Aston Villa, a very young back-line did well to keep out the advancing threat. Tom Palmer, on for Hall, saved well from Harness S the Reds looked to have wrapped up another credible friendly draw.

That would be dashed just two minutes from time, however, as yet another substitute in McCormick snatched the victory for the Brewers with a composed finish after the ball fell lose in the area.

Up next for Harriers is the visit of Birmingham City to Aggborough this coming Saturday, 3pm.
