RYAN JOHNSON wants Harriers to build on their good work so far as pre-season builds towards a close.
This weekend’s friendly at Aggborough against Birmingham City comes on the penultimate weekend of the summer.
Harriers have already packed in games against Shrewsbury, Aston Villa and Burton Albion and have been encouraged by much of what’s been on display.
On-loan defender Johnson, however, still believes standards can be improved towards the beginning of the National League North campaign, as evidenced by Tuesday’s late defeat against the League 1 Brewers.
“The first 45 minutes was really good; we kept the ball well, moved it well and did everything the gaffer wanted us to do,” said Johnson.
“It’s just maybe that in pre-season we are a little bit naïve and in the second half we switched off a bit maybe.
“All the boys are buying into what [the gaffer] wants and we were doing well, but I think we needed to fix up a little bit at the end.
“The gaffer wants us to be aggressive and to be doing the right things and I think we are all trying to do that – hopefully towards the last part of pre-season we’ll get there.”
Harriers against a young Birmingham City side is at Aggborough at 3pm on Saturday, 21 July.
