Harriers Ladies returned to winning ways with a 4-1 victory over league rivals Kingfisher in the Worcestershire Women’s County Cup.
Harriers were forced to make a number of changes following last weekend’s SSE Women’s FA Cup encounter with Wolves, so knew the Quarter Final match against Kingfisher would be difficult, despite the fact that Harriers were victorious against the same opponent two weeks ago.
The Ladies started this weekend’s match brightly and quickly found the net.
Captain Anne Johnson’s shot at goal was helped on it’s way into the net by Sophie Richards to put Harriers ahead.
The lead was doubled on 12 minutes when Alex Nicklin found the net to put Harriers in charge.
As in the previous meeting, Harriers kept the pressure on and had numerous chances to extend the lead before half time, but the Kingfisher defence stood strong.
Harriers came quickly out of the blocks in the second half – a great ball was played through from Anna Lock to Sophie Richards, who crossed expertly onto the head of Nicklin, who nodded home.
On a difficult pitch, Harriers started to pass the ball around well and got a fourth from a corner – Molly Maguire heading home powerfully.
Kingfisher did have a good spell of play late on and were rewarded after skipper Johnson was adjudged to have brought down the striker, and the penalty was converted to take away the clean sheet.
Winners of the competition last season, Harriers will play their Semi Final match in January 2019.
Next Sunday, Harriers will be back in league action with a trip to face Solihull Sporting.
