Boss ready for Halifax flashback

The gaffer will be watching along as we re-live one of his best ever performances…

Thumbs up if you're watching the YouTube stream of Halifax v Harriers, Russ!

BOSS Russ Penn admits he’ll be watching back one of the most memorable matches of his career for the first time tonight, with our stream of the 2008 win at Halifax Town.

As part of our commitment to trying to keep fans entertained and engaged during the enforced ‘off season’ we’re currently in, we’re re-running a series of memorable matches on our YouTube channel.

Tonight, hot on the heels of the 2012 win at Cambridge and this season’s win at Kettering, we’ve travelled back to 2008 to The Shay, Halifax, where Mark Yates’ Harriers visited in what was then the Blue Square Premier (now the National League).

It ended in a resounding win, of course, with Penn, now the gaffer, playing a starring role – and a goal scoring one at that! (We won’t give too much away, just in case you, for whatever reason, still have no idea what we’re talking about).

He’ll be watching tonight’s stream, and told harriers.co.uk: “Funnily enough, I’ve never actually watched the game back in full before, so it will be nice to see tonight.

“Obviously I’ve seen certain bits back a number of times, as you can probably imagine!

“It was a great night… I remember coming off the pitch and thinking ‘what’s just happened there?!’ – it just wasn’t something I’d ever done before, only ever at schoolboy level and that kind of thing.”

Halifax were then, of course, managed by Chris Wilder, whose job appeared under threat after the match. Whatever happened to him…?

Keen to see the action? Our YouTube channel shows the entire match, including commentary from the hosts, from 7:45pm.

We’d like to thank Keith Chandler for his kind loan of the match footage.
