HARRIERS fans have now raised over £5,000 to boost Manager Russ Penn’s playing budget, as a unique fundraising initiative heads towards its final weeks.
The club launched a ‘Boost the Budget’ scheme via Crowdfunder earlier in the summer, specifically designed to aid boss Penn’s recruitment of players ahead of the new season.
It is hoped that live football will be returning to Aggborough Stadium soon enough, with Government and FA advice suggesting the new season might begin in September.
That means Penn and his staff are busy putting finishing touches to the squad as they bid to return for pre-season training.
Those preparations have been given a shot in the arm thanks to the £5,000 that’s been raised by around 80 Harriers fans – who’ve donated cash in exchanged for a unique range of rewards and experiences.
The fundraiser draws to a close in two weeks, and a grateful Penn was hopeful that even more support before then could make a massive difference to the season.
“There’s a tremendous feel-good factor around the place at the minute and the fans are playing a real part in that,” he said.
“’I’ve said before that, where this kind of thing is concerned, every bit does help. I know some people have donated larger sums, and some have thrown in £5 or £10 – every donation is really appreciated by everybody.
“The fans know I will do everything I can to reward their generosity with results this season, and any support they can keep on giving us in the next couple of weeks will be absolutely massive for us.”
