Ladies off to a flyer in League

A strong start to the new league season for Harriers….

Bailey-Raine Hodge

HARRIERS Ladies stormed their way to their first three points of the season with an emphatic 11-0 win over Sedgley & Gornal.

The victory was secured convincingly thanks to a clinical display of finishing inside a first half that saw the Reds hit seven before the break.

Danni Selmes showed incredible composure in front of goal to net four before the interval, including a deft one-on-one finish, while Mia Badland was also on target, along with a first Harriers goal for Alysha Stanley. Also among the first-half hits was a well-taken header from Bailey-Raine Hodge.

Sedgley were bright from the off and and caused the Harriers back line problems, but understandably found their confidence dented by the early glut of goals, with hosts dominating from then on.

Although Harriers remained in control of the game, the second period was a quieter affair on the whole. Some poor finishing – and some inspired saves by the Sedgley goalkeeper – kept the score down for periods, but another flurry of goals arrived in due course.

Stanley, Hodge, Badland and Molly Maguire were all on the score sheet in the end to take the score to 11, leaving Harriers with an excellent platform on which to build for the remainder of the term.

This coming Sunday (4th), Harriers are again at home when they welcome Kingfisher – who defeated them in last season’s County Cup Final.

As ever, support is most welcome and appreciated at Lea Castle (DY10 3PU). Social distancing must be exercised, and Test and Trace is in operation.
