Tuesday: Stamford v Harriers

We look ahead to tonight’s game in the Buildbase FA Trophy….

RUSS Penn has insisted his team will need to be “on it” to avoid another upset in cup competitions at Stamford on Tuesday night.

Harriers visit The Daniels in a crucial Buildbase FA Trophy Second Round clash, leaving League action behind until Christmas following Saturday’s win at Gateshead.

The tie has plenty riding on it – not least a chance to make it through two rounds and secure a place in Round Four, after it was confirmed the winner of the match will receive a bye in Round Three.

That means the winning club also gets two rounds worth of prize money, too, leaving the boss in no doubt as to the importance of the meeting at the Zeeco Stadium.

It also represents a chance for Harriers to banish some of the pain of their opening day of the season, an FA Cup upset on penalties at the hands of Alvechurch.

It will be far from easy of course – Stamford may play their football two levels below Harriers, but they’ve started their league season well and are thus far unbeaten at home.

In the previous round, played on Saturday, they saw off divisional rivals Kidsgrove Athletic 2-0 on their travels.

“I love the FA Trophy,” said Penn. “We’re really looking forward to going there and we’ll give them great respect because they’re doing well in their league.

“We’ve got to be on it. Hopefully, we’ve learned from the Alvechurch day which was tough on all accounts… we’ll go there knowing and being prepared for what they’ve going to give us.

“It’s a big game for them but it’s a massive game for us as well – with the bye in the next round it’s double bubble really.

“There’s an opportunity and great pressure – Stamford are a very good team and they beat Stourbridge who’re just a couple of miles from me six weeks ago.

“I have friends [at Stourbridge] and Stamford were well organised and beat them convincingly.

“We have got to be on it or we’re going to get slapped, and I don’t like getting slapped.”

Harriers will check again on Jim Kellermann (knee) and Tom Palmer (ill) who missed Saturday’s game.

The Stamford tie will be settled on the night with the match advancing straight to penalties if the score is level at the end of normal time.

Kick-off is at 7:45pm.

The game is to be played behind closed doors, but fans can keep up to date with events via our social media channels and website.
