GOALS from Ashley Hemmings and Sam Austin couldn’t prevent Harriers slipping to an eventful 3-2 pre-season defeat at  Stratford on Tuesday.

The home side were ahead early, Will Grocott firing the team in front after nine minutes with a low finish, with a trialist going close to second three minutes later, seeing an effort flash off target.

Harriers took a while to get any kind of foothold in the game, doing so eventually through Bell and Morgan-Smith both went close. The summer arrival was played through on goal and forced a good save from the keeper’s legs, while Morgan-Smith’s angled drive sailed just past the far post.

Past the hour, only an almighty scramble in the home area prevented an equaliser as Stratford bodies denied Bell and Lowe to name just a couple.

Then after the restart, Harriers were level after Hemmings directed a Lowe ball up and into the corner of the net with a strong header, the Reds almost making it 2-1 seven minutes later when the talisman No.10 struck the post with a low shot.

Just moments after entering the fray as a sub, Sam Austin put Harriers in front with a touch of class from distance, a firm drive that left the keeper with little chance.  It was a lead that  lasted just nine minutes, with the Bards back level through Glover’s effort from the spot after a foul in the area.

The Bards’ third came courtesy of a mix-up in defence, Stratford stealing the ball and Glover squaring to Fuller who was able to turn it beyond the goalkeeper.

Up next for Harriers is the pre-season trip to Halesowen Town on Saturday, 3pm.
