HARRIERS came from 2-0 down to grab a pre-season draw in an entertaining affair against a Manchester United XI on Friday night.
A young but very lively United side had themselves in front after just five minutes as a dangerous Alvaro Fernandez cross was tucked away smartly by Omari Forson.
Hemmings for Harriers took aim just a few minutes later and saw an effort, on the angle, arc around the goalkeeper and the post.
With 20 on the clock it was the home side going close again as Omari Sterling raced on to a forward ball and flicked it up and over goalkeeper Ondrej Mastny. The stopper just managed to get a hand to it, and raced back in time to stop it bouncing over the line.
Just past the half-hour it was two for United, though, as another low, deadly cross was fired into the net as Shola Shoretire did the honours.
Harriers were bright at the restart and almost forced a goal back after Caleb Richards cross sparked a melee of efforts, Jaiden White then firing over from distance.
With the hour just gone, Morgan-Smith’s rising effort looked to have Mastny beaten, only for a clawing hand to appear and tip the ball on to the bar and over. Around ten minutes later the home side had the goal they deserved, as a Richards cross was diverted past his own keeper by Fernandez.
Keith Lowe’s 82nd minute header helped keep the pressure on the United goal, pressure which would tell six minutes later as Sam Austin curled a beauty of an effort from 20 yards into the net, in typical Sam Austin style.
