HARRIERS steamrollered promotion favourites Spennymoor Town 4-0 at Aggborough to cap a sound seven days for Russ Penn’s men.
After a patchy few weeks in the league, the Reds have very much put things back on track over the course of the last three games. Still flying under the radar, they punished Bradford (Park Avenue) 5-1 last Saturday, and grabbed a point at Chorley before rounding the period off in style against Tommy Miller’s men.
Granted, The Moors have had recent injury issues but make no mistake, this was an impressive win against a good team, and a side that had previously been going great guns in National League North prior to defeat at AFC Fylde last weekend.
While they had isolated chances of their own at Aggborough, the visitors were very much second best from start to finish as the home side dominated – taking the lead before the quarter hour mark as Penny effectively started and finished the move, nudging the ball into the area before chasing after it and stabbing it home.
Austin and Hemmings then tested Dale Eve in the away goal before Moors man Rob Ramshaw miss-hit a shot at the other end that had looked set to cause Luke Simpson problems.
Morgan-Smith did well to take the ball around Eve early in the second half, only to find the side netting with his shot – Sterling feeding Austin soon after who took it superbly and forced Eve into a low stop.
Barely a couple of minutes after extending himself again to deny a Hemmings drive on 56 minutes, the dependable Eve was caught well and truly off guard by the power of Sterling’s shot as it flew through his gloves and into the net.
Former Harriers custodian Eve was soon back doing his thing as the hosts kept the chances coming – 70 on the clock when Sterling and Austin combined, the latter firing at goal and Eve meeting it.

Sub Ryan Hall went within inches of pulling a goal back for Spennymoor three minutes later, seeing his effort beat Simpson but clatter his upright. That proved to be the death knell for Moors as Harriers pounced for their third on 81, Austin passing to Clayton-Phillips before getting the ball back and firing smartly past Eve to end his own personal (short) goal drought.
Subs kept on doing their bit – Freemantle and White had both only been on the pitch for a matter of minutes when they combined for the fourth and final goal of the day. As Spennymoor dwelt too long on the ball, White nipped in to steal it before feeding Freemantle, who took a touch before firing it through Eve’s legs to spark even more celebrations.
