ETHAN Freemantle netted another pre-season goal in a 3-1 friendly defeat to a gifted young Liverpool side at Aggborough.
Harriers had the first key chance of the night with 17 on the clock – Caleb Richards and Ashley Hemmings combined to play in Trialist C who saw his low shot tipped expertly away by Liverpool stopper Luke Hewitson.
A minute later, Liverpool were ahead – Jake Cain shot powerfully from the edge of the area, with Tom Palmer helpless to stop the effort that landed in the back of the net.
Palmer almost helped his team back level on 32 minutes as Trialist C got on the end of his ball forward, but the striker’s shot was skewed. Just after, the same front man had Hewitson stretching again to tip away a low effort.
Liverpool doubled their lead on 45 minutes as a close-range rocket from Leighton Clarkson found the net. Harriers almost responded immediately, though, with Kai Lissimore denied by Hewitson.
Within a few moments of the restart, both Yusifu Ceesay and Ethan Freemantle, on as subs, went close only to be denied by last-ditch tackles, but the same duo combined in that order to reduce the arrears on 49 minutes. Hewitson had spilled a Ceesay shot, with Freemantle tucking away the scraps.
Changes that so often disrupt the momentum of this type of game soon followed, but the high tempo of the game never relented.
With just over 15 minutes left to go, Freemantle played in Jack Tolley who cut inside well before shaping up and shooting, a deflection taking the ball up and over the target.
Liverpool had the final say with the night’s last goal as we ticked into added time – Oakley Cannonier tapping home from close range after substitute Jamie Emery had made a good save.
