HARRIERS have been given ahead of Saturday’s trip to Spennymoor with the news Alex Penny’s injury may not be as serious as first feared.
The Reds head to County Durham this weekend having thought Penny could be ruled out for some time after being helped off during last weekend’s defeat to Scarborough.
Worries that it could be the start of another injury nightmare for the player have been eased, somewhat, with Penny likely to be back in action before too long.
Speaking ahead of this weekend’s trek, Penn says the defender will have a fitness test ahead of the game but is otherwise in good shape.
Instead he was left to rue his absence for much of the Scarborough clash having started the game well.
“It’s not as serious as first thought,” he explained. “He’ll have a fitness text before Saturday.
“Whether he’ll make it this Saturday is touch and go at the moment, but like I said after the game last Saturday, we’ve really struggled down the right side with keeping players fit for one reason or another.
“That’s something we’ve got to address because all the change seems to be that side which is so frustrating because we lose all our momentum.
“I definitely think if Alex Penny stays on the pitch, we might have got a better result.”
Zak Brown had been named in the starting eleven for Tuesday’s postponed Worcestershire Senior Cup tie at Stourport having missed several weeks of action.
He moves into contention this weekend as a result, and Caleb Richards and Joe Foulkes are, similarly, not too far away.
Harriers face a rapidly improving Spennymoor side, who’re back into a position to have a thrust at the play-offs during the final months of the season.
The Moors had struggling during the early part of the term but, under the management of club stalwart Jason Ainsley once again, have started to find their groove.
Penn added: “I respect Jason a lot. He’s gone back and has kind of turned the fortunes around.”
“Like us, they’ve had a good month and put themselves in the mix, so it’s going to be a really entertaining game.
“We’ll go there full of confidence, with a strong team, looking to win the game.”
Segregation is in force for Saturday’s tie with admission details and ticket sales available via the Spennymoor website.
Kick-off at The Brewery Field is at 3:00pm.
