HARRIERS were beaten 1-0 by Alfreton at Aggborough after a late own goal gave the visitors all three points.

The visitors had goalkeeper George Willis to thank for a number of key saves on the day as they fought to keep alive an unbeaten home record for this season, but a late own goal meant the men from the Impact Arena travelled back home with all three points.

It was Alfreton, on seven minutes, who had the first chance of the day when a long throw, nodded back across into the area, was headed over by an unmarked Wiley.

Six minutes later, Ashley Hemmings thought he’d chested in the opening goal of the day as he looked to finish Maliq Cadogan’s cross, only for a stretching defender to divert the ball over his own bar.

Cadogan then himself saw a low shot saved by Willis, before Morgan-Smith headed wide before seeing another efforted diverted wide of the target, all within the first 20 minutes.

Come the half-hour, Maz Kouhyar crossed low and dangerously for Zak Brown whose side-footed finish was palmed away by Willis, into the path of Morgan-Smith who looked to finish before being put off by a covering tackle.

Hunt then planted a firm header over for Alfreton before Cadogan took aim again, firing over from 20 yards.

On the stroke of the interval, Kouhyar’s superb pace set him free on the counter attack with Harriers in a two v two – Hemmings broke away in support and in space to pick up his pass, but the final shot found Willis again in excellent form as he rushed out to block.

Harriers were then given a let off of sorts when Alfreton won the ball back inside the Reds penalty area – a low cross was slotted across from three yards out, but a sliding foot somehow manage to skew it wide.

Arguably the best home chance of the day came with just under 15 minutes left when Hemmings, played through, managed to round Willis, only to fire a little too quickly and send an effort off target.

Alfreton were ahead three minutes later when the lively sub Salmon charged down the left and played a ball across goal that Penny was determined to stop Moyo from reaching, succeeding only by inadvertently striking it past Christian Dibble and into the net.

With five left to play, Brown did take aim with a low shot, but it was a comfortable enough take for Willis.
