Saturday: Harriers v Farsley

A look ahead to Saturday’s game at Aggborough…

HARRIERS meet Farsley Celtic at Aggborough on Saturday looking to continue a recent unbeaten league stretch.

Phil Brown’s men are currently accumulating a nice run of games without defeat, that form continuing with an excellent 1-0 win at Curzon Ashton on Wednesday.

That run will be tested by a Farsley side who picked up arguably the standout result of the midweek programme in National League North.

Having been suffering for recent form and been on the end of heavy defeats against Hereford and Scunthorpe United, Celtic travelled to King’s Lynn and kicked those woes into the dust with a superb 2-0 victory.

While those three-point hauls may have been harder to come by, they have given the side, currently without their Citadel home due to pitch issues, enough points to keep clear of any threat at the foot of the table.

They’ve also beaten Peterborough Sports, Needham Market and Warrington among others this term, leaving Phil Brown in no doubt that Harriers will need to be on their mettle come the weekend.

Asked ab out playing a Celtic team who, like most in the division, can be in and out, he said: “We’ve got to catch them on the out. If they’re in form, which they can be… I’ve spoken to my scouting network, and we’ve seen them a couple of times.

“They haven’t got a home, they’re nomadic, but they’re playing.

“That siege mentality that they’ve got is getting results. I’ve been told, if you catch them on the wrong day then you could be on the end of a hiding.

“If you catch them on the right day then you might be able to play through the lines and catch them unawares.

“Going into Saturday, I think the first goal will be crucial, and let’s hope we can get it.”

Wednesday’s win keeps Harriers in touch with the chasing pack of what is one of the most inconsistent National League Norths in recent memory.

“The league is all over the place,” added the boss.

“There’s nobody running away with it and no teams at the top that are two points per-game.

“All of those things, you take into consideration, it’s going to be tight all the way through and damned exciting if you ask me.

“I’ll probably be grey come the end of the season, or bald, one of the two, but I enjoy it.”

Harriers welcomed back Joe Foulkes (suspension) and Ben Beresford (injury) at Curzon in a much-needed boost to numbers, with defender Taylor Foran signing on loan on Friday.

Paul Downing remains close to a comeback while Alex Penny and Luke Summerfield are longer-term absentees.

Kick off on Saturday for what is the tenth meeting between Harriers and Farsley, is at 3:00pm.
