Saturday: Harriers v Curzon

A look to Saturday’s game…

SATURDAY sees the sixteenth meeting between Harriers and Curzon Ashton as the promotion race in National League North continues.

The Nash travel to Worcestershire looking to make the play-offs for the second successive campaign, while the Reds are keen to push league leaders Scunthorpe United all the way to the wire.

Famous last words, perhaps, but one thing that seems guaranteed in DY10 on Saturday is goals. In the 15 meetings between Harriers and Curzon, there has never been a goalless draw.

Though these two didn’t meet in league action until 2016, in 2008 there was an FA Cup win for Harriers as the Reds won 2-0 against then lower-league Curzon to reach the Third Round proper.

The first league clash on record went the way of Harriers, too – John Eustace oversaw a superb 6-1 victory in his first game in charge at the club in 2016, a 3-2 double following at Aggborough later in the term.

Don’t be fooled into thinking Harriers have had it all their own way against Curzon. A truly miserable afternoon saw them unceremoniously dumped out of the FA Trophy courtesy of a 3-0 defeat in 2019, Nash also winning on their last league visit to Aggborough in 2022.

It was tight in this season’s return game – Harriers won by a single goal thanks to an early Ashley Hemmings effort that earned a 1-0 victory.

A fine season so far for Craig Mahon’s charges sees them handily placed inside the play-offs with a two-point cushion on eight placed King’s Lynn Town.

They travel to Aggborough looking to bounce back from a one-sided defeat to Spennymoor Town in midweek, but have flexed their promotion credentials across the season, with big victories including successes over Chorley, Chester and King’s Lynn, and a 5-0 smashing of Oxford City.

Phil Brown sends his men into battle looking to continue a good unbeaten run that continued with an injury time equaliser at Buxton last weekend.

He’ll likely need to do without the services of striker Charlie Lutz (ankle) through injury.

Brown discussed the status of his squad, his views on Saturday’s game and more in his pre-match interview which can be viewed below.

Kick-off at Aggborough on Saturday is at 3:00pm
