ADAM Murray believes the connection between Harriers and the club’s supporters has become one of the defining stories of the season.
Harriers are heading into their last match of the season this weekend – the Promotion Final at South Shields.
More than 1,000 Reds fans are making the long journey north for the game, and boss Murray has spoken of his pride how the relationship between this group of players and the Harriers fans has evolved during the campaign.
For the gaffer, that backing has become increasingly important as the campaign has progressed – from a challenging start.
“I think the thing with our football club is we’re used to big games,” he said. “I think the way our season’s gone, we’ve had to win.
“We had that start where you get smashed in the face against Radcliffe 5-1 and you’re thinking: ‘this is different!’ – we had to rebuild from then in terms of our mindset.
“We’ve gone through the season having to claw them places back and to get people on side, not just talking about getting players on side, but to get fans on side.
“We’ve got to a point now where we’re all together and, because of that tough time at the start of the season, I honestly believe we’re stronger for that and we really are a tight-knit group as a football club now.”
That togetherness has been reflected not only in results on the pitch, but in the atmosphere around Aggborough and on the road during the second half of the season.
While the focus now falls on one final game, Murray also believes the squad’s spirit across the season has been key to putting Harriers in this position.
He added: “I’ve been really blessed this season that once we’ve gone through that first couple of months we’ve funnelled it down to a group of people that were all on board and all wanted to be part of the Kidderminster journey – not just this season but beyond, and they’ve bought into that.
“Even the boys that have not been getting regular starting time and have been on the bench have been amazing.
“I’ve been really lucky the last six months, everybody has bought into what we’re doing and it’s created what we’ve got.”
With excitement building ahead of the final, Murray says there is a real energy around the group heading into the weekend.
The boss said: “There’s an excitement in the group that’s looking forward to the game and having an explosion of energy so we’re all ready to go.”
