PHIL Brown takes charge of Harriers for the first time on Saturday as the Reds host Aldershot Town at Aggborough.
The play-off chasing Shots have enjoyed a fine season so far, pushing hard towards the play-off places and embarking on an excellent FA Cup run that took them to face West Bromwich Albion.
They’ll be stern opposition for Brown’s first encounter in the dugout, but it’s nonetheless one the boss is looking forward to.
He said ahead of the game: “We’ve got a team that I’ve managed to watch a couple of times when I was working for the BBC.
“Aldershot in their Cup run against Stockport county gave a great account of themselves, and are a team that can express themselves in the final third, for sure.
“They’re a team that concedes goals as well, they’re an open side and want to play entertaining football.
“So it’s going to be one of them: when we have the ball we have got to express ourselves, and when they’ve got the ball we have got to be tight.
“We don’t want them to have the chances they’ve been having in certain games.”
Brown will have new signing Sam Bellis available this weekend, while Matt Preston will be remaining with the club until the end of the season.
After a double recall of sorts, Bailey Hobson has now left Harriers, but Kieran Phillips is back with the Reds and also available to Brown.
Saturday is Aldershot’s first visit to DY10 since 2015, while the Shots tasted victory in this season’s return fixture at the EBB Stadium.
The pitch at Aggborough has been covered since the final whistle of last weekend’s game but has understandably been impacted by the freezing conditions.
Thankfully, temperatures are now above freezing throughout Friday afternoon on Saturday and considerable work is continuing. We remain confident the game will go ahead as scheduled, but should that change at any stage, we will update supporters with news as quickly as possible.
Kick-off at Aggborough on Saturday is at 3:00pm.
