FA Cup: Another away draw!

Details of Monday’s FA Cup Third Qualifying Round draw…

The Emirates FA Cup

The Emirates FA Cup Third Qualifying Round draw has handed us a tricky looking away tie.

On Saturday Harriers were 3-1 winners at Sporting Khalsa, with a Nyal Bell brace among the goals.

The wait for a home cup tie goes on, though, as Russ Penn’s men will again be sent on the road in the next round.

Monday’s draw saw them pitted against either Ware or Hemel Hempstead Town in a tie to played on or around Saturday, 2 October at 3pm.

Those two teams will need to meet again at Hemel’s Vauxhall Road on Tuesday in a replay, after playing out a 2-2 draw in Saturday’s initial tie.

The National League South side had raced in to a two-goal lead away from home and looked a good bet to have one foot into the next round.

Ware, who play two levels below their visitors, fought back and, thanks to a goal in the third minute of stoppage time, snatched the latest of late levellers.

That proved to be the final game in charge of The Tudors for boss Lee Bircham, who left the club on Monday. Former Oxford City chief Mark Jones took over the hot-seat and will be in charge for the replay.

Harriers have made one previous trip to Ware in the FA Cup – in 2007 some 2,100 fans packed into their ground for a First Round proper tie.

Both sides finished with ten men, with Harriers progressing through with a 2-0 victory thanks to late goals from Michael Blackwood and James Constable – boss Penn also in midfield that day.

We’ll bring you more details of our tie against the winner once they’re confirmed.
