We look ahead to Saturday’s FA Cup trip to Ware…

HARRIERS meet Ware in the FA Cup on Saturday with Reds boss Russ Penn very aware that it’s a huge day for both teams.

Harriers began their FA Cup journey for this season with a win at Sporting Khalsa just under a fortnight ago.

That represented a first Cup win for the Reds since 2018 as Harriers look to finally get back into the groove of a solid cup run.

Ware, meanwhile, have already knocked off plenty of sides on their route to the Third Qualifying Round, overcoming Hemel Hempstead of National League South in the last round.

That was a sizable enough upset, with the Blues playing their football a level below the side they’d conquered.

Harriers are next in their sights, with boss Russ Penn telling our YouTube channel: “It’s a big game for Ware but it’s a big game for us.

“It’s a massive game for us, actually, as we’ve been nothing short of terrible in the FA Cup and FA Trophy over the last couple of years.

“Cup runs get the momentum going and gets the fans behind you, and it really catapults you in the league as well.

“We are excited for tomorrow, it’s a Cup occasion that can get plenty of highlights on the telly so we’re all looking forward to it.”

Penn watched their midweek league defeat and knows Ware’s progress during the season as a whole so far stands them in good stead.

“It looks like a really good, community club,” he went on to say.

“They are organised, disciplined and are obviously going for it in their league this season, so we’ve got to be in it.

“[Getting through] is the bonus, it’s prize money if you’re the Chairman and you’re one game away from the First Round.

“There are loads of incentives for this game, but it is one game at a time, and they’ll be saying exactly the same as us.

“It’s going to be full throttle tomorrow, and hopefully we’re on the right end of the result.”

Harriers will be boosted on Saturday by the return of Mark Carrington to the squad.

The former Wrexham man has missed the team’s last three matches following a sending off but returns in time for the Cup trip.

Penn is hopeful that Lewis Montrose and Omari Sterling will be back fit to feature after being withdrawn through injury at AFC Fylde last weekend.

Saturday’s winner heads into the Fourth Qualifying Round draw, which takes place on Monday afternoon.

Kick-off at Ware is 3:00pm.
