HARRIERS and Ware will do it all again in an FA Cup replay on Tuesday following a dramatic 1-1 draw on Saturday.
The game had got off to the perfect start for Harriers, who were in front after just 45 seconds when striker Amari Morgan-Smith netted his first goal of the season with a close-range finish.
Celebrations weren’t able to continue for long, though, with Harriers losing Joe Foulkes to injury soon after. The on-loan Walsall man was injured in being challenged just after setting up Sam Austin for a chance, and needed to be taken from the field on a stretcher. Russ Penn noted after the game that the injury didn’t look promising, but that the player would report back to Walsall on Monday for evaluation.
The first half was not a 45 minutes blessed with an incredible amount of chances, but there were a couple more before the break. Home front man Hope fired over, with his shot capping a strong move forward, While Mark Carrington up at the other end saw a low shot turned around the post.
After the interval, Harriers had to dig in and do a share of defending as the home side enjoyed their first real sustained spell on top in the match. After furious protests for a penalty following an alleged handball in the area were waved away, Adamson blasted a shot at close range that was bravely blocked away by a red shirt.
It was from there that we really started to get a cup tie as chances began to flow at either end. Ten minutes after Cameron had seen a header held from a well worked corner, Ware Captain Rose saw a header of his own hooked off the line as it had looked set to nestle into the far corner.
With just over 20 minutes to play, Harriers had two chances within the space of a minute to seal their place in the next round. Unfortunately for them, Ashley Hemmings was denied by the woodwork as he looked to bend a free-kick into the top corner, while Sam Austin saw his rising shot from inside the area tipped over the bar.
While you never felt the tie was completely done and dusted, Harriers were far from being pelted from all sides and looked to have just about done enough to see the job through when Ware’s dogged determination got its rewards in the form of a late equaliser. Luke Simpson had looked to have done well to parry away a curling shot from 18 yards, but when he could only move the ball into the path of Leigh Rose, the custodian could do nothing about the follow-up that was fired past him.
A manic spell of almost six minutes of added time saw the ball peppered around both penalty areas, but ultimately that was enough drama for one afternoon as the two teams were destined to meet again on Tuesday.
