Recap: AFC Fylde 2-0 Harriers

A look back at Tuesday’s FA Cup set-back at AFC Fylde…

HARRIERS exited this season’s Emirates FA Cup after a 2-0 replay defeat to AFC Fylde at Mill Farm.

The night ended in frank disappointment for the visitors, but the side went within inches of the perfect start. Inside a minute, Yusifu Ceesay and Jack Bearne were making a nuisance of themselves, and the latter’s shot was spilled by Chris Neal before almost rolling over the goal line.

The two teams traded half chances during what was a fairly even first half and one in which Harriers looked confident and purposeful on the ball. Connor Barrett’s close-range header was saved by Tom Palmer in the eighth minute, before Krystian Pearce’s shot deflected widely at the other end before going wide.

Ceesay then struck an effort that Neal held into his chest, Palmer doing similar from Danny Rowe’s driven free kick with 25 on the clock. Danny Philliskirk was next to chance his arm for Fylde but his rising effort was comfortably held by the Harriers shot stopper.

A more serious chance came the home side’s way three minutes after the restart when Siya Ligendza’s effort swerved through the air and needed evasive action from Palmer, before Rowe struck over the target soon after.

Fylde took the lead on 63 minutes as Ligendza was found, unmarked in the area, by a dropping cross that he turned beyond Palmer – sadly from that point on Harriers never really pulled themselves back into the ascendency as the hosts took control.

Alex Whitmore came close to making it 2-0 with 17 minutes left to play but Harriers did well to clear off the line, but nine minutes later it was game over as Fylde struck again, sub Luke Charman was gifted space in the area to fire an effort into the top corner.
