Saturday: Harriers v FC Halifax

A look ahead to Saturday evening’s televised clash against FC Halifax….

PHIL Brown is focusing on FC Halifax Town ahead of this Saturday evening’s televised clash at Aggborough – and is ignoring the league table for now.

Harriers stunned Champions Chesterfield on Monday, a 3-1 win away from home closing the gap to safety to just one point.

That came after a loss by the same score days earlier against Altrincham – a fate some might have expected to have been reversed.

The net result was three points, though, and that’s all that matters to the boss, despite the various permutations flying around as to which teams need which number of points, and who is playing who, and so on.

Looking ahead, the Aggborough boss said: “I’ve not even looked at the league table with regards to the defeat against Altrincham and the win against Chesterfield, and what would it have looked like had it been a win against Altrincham and a defeat against Chesterfield.

“I don’t work like that. I unfortunately look at the one ahead and I’m looking at the Halifax game.

“I’m thinking ‘is it winnable’? Of course it is. I’m thinking it’s an old team of mine.

“I have a lot of synergy with Halifax, and I lived in Halifax for a long, long time and have family there.

“There are lots of things to like about Halifax Town.”

The Reds will once again be going up against one of the division’s promotion contenders as The Shaymen visit Worcestershire.

That spectre and the television cameras being at Aggborough for the 5:30pm kick off means there’s a good contest in prospect – and Brown wants Harriers to bring that all-important A-Game.

“They’re a good side,” he added of Halifax. “There’s no doubt about it.

“They’re playing football at the moment at the right end of the division, which I’ve said many, many times.

“But we’re playing football with a purpose and that purpose is survival, and we have to bring that survival mentality to the party for the next two home games and away to Barnet.

“It starts on Saturday at 5:30, on the tv, and we have to show the footballing world what we’re about.”

Earlier this season at The Shay, an Amari Morgan-Smith goal wasn’t enough to prevent a 2-1 defeat.

It will be a first league visit to DY10 for Halifax since they won by the same score in 2017 as the two sides met in what was then a National League North outing.

Kick-off at Aggborough is at 5:30pm, and some important information for all supporters is below:
